2010 Wakagoi Show - Tosu City, Kyushu Island
Koibito Japan went to the 2010 Wakagoi Show over the weekend of the 3rd and 4th of April. Plenty of great koi to be seen from all over Japan, with the winning koi, owned by a Chinese hobbyist, being crowned Grand Champion.
This year's Grand Champion, a Sakai Fish Farm Kohaku bought by a Chinese hobbyist took the Show this year by storm. Maruten Kohaku's are popular at the best of times, but this really was a favourite with the judges. The owner, Mr. Tan was also there to receive the prize, get his three cheers for victory and also finally enjoy being tossed into the air, as is tradition for winners of koi shows in Japan. You can see from the photo that it is a spectacular Koi indeed.
Koi that really stood out in the show were of course the winning Maruten Kohaku, and the runner-up Sanke, both bred by Sakai Fish Farm, Hiroshima. Congratulations to owner Mr. Tan and Sakai FIsh Farm Management and Staff from Koibito Japan! Other koi which caught the eye of Koibito Japan were the following:
63 bu, Best in Variety, Utsurimono bred by Omosako Koi Farm, Hiroshima...a really spectacular Shiro Utsuri you have to agree.
58 bu, Best in Variety, Hikarimuji bred by Nagoshi Koi Farm, Toyama. Nagoshi san, not content with winning Best in Variety for Asagi two out of the last three years at the All Japan Koi Show, has made a big hit with his Yamabuki's too. A really beautiful example.
38bu, Sakura Prize, Doitsugoi bred by Shinoda Koi Farm. What more can you expect from the home of Doitsu Go-sanke and Hi-Utsuri. Will be interesting to see how this koi develops after a summer in the mudpond.
